Museum ” Ancient Lviv” is the first multimedia museum in Lviv, which presents the history of the city from the founding to 1772.
The uniqueness of the museum is in using innovative technologies in the presentation of history – historical periods are represented through the most prominent personalities who were born in this region and/or created the city. All historic personalities are made with the help of the ” Cyberskin technology “, which ensures a maximum effect of presence. Personalities are dressed in clothes reconstructed by professional craftsmen using the old engravings and sources.The personalities are portrated using the smallest details – chainmails and belts, armours and shoes.
All personalities are set in 3-D scenes, completed with the sounds and smells of the relevant eras.All exhibits are arranged in chronological order, which allows you to understand the legacy of historical processes.
The school programmes of the Museum ” Ancient Lviv” are events of different themes and formats. They are created in accordance with the requests of the audience as well as innovations in the museum business.
The museum offers a wide range of tours and open classes: guided, themed, designed for large and small groups of children. The museum is open to suggestions and ready to develop excursions and educational programmes with a suitable focus.
School's tours
School’s Tours are based on the school’s educational programme and are integrated into the learning process as an form of informal education.
The museum promotes the implementation of integrated narrative focuses in the History programme, such as the narrative focuses “Public Responsibility”, “Cultural Identity”, “Values and Morality”. Whem the pupils studyed the history they will understand the value of the democratic structure of the country, the importance of civic initiative, learn to analyse different sources of information and how to form their own opinion about different historical phenomena.
Tours by the Ancient Lviv Museum will promote the development of historical competence, especially chronological, because Ukrainian history in the context of the history of Galicia is presented in chronological order. Students will be able to link historical periods, understand the narratives and logical sequence of different periods, and observe the intellectual responsibility of the Ukrainian state’s leadership.

We have a informal tours around Museum for school groups of 5 classes, where pupils will learn about the sources for studying history on the basis of unique artefacts – Jewerly adornment of X-XIII centuries, objects of everyday life of XIV-XVII centuries, factory production goods, replicas of ammunition of XII-XIII and XIV-XV centuries.Children will be able to visualize the famous historical personalities and discover the history of Ukraine in general and of Lviv in particular.
Duration of the tour – 45 minutes.
Price: 125 UAH. entrance ticket + 40 UAH. tour, a 20% discount on the entry ticket for a group of 20 children.

The History of The Galicia and Volhynia Prinsipality, the genealogy of the Rurikovich Family, the borders of Rus’ Kingdom are introduced for school groups of the 7th grade. Interactive maps, realistic reconstructions of the external appearance of historical personalities, a lot of artifacts of the XII-XVII centuries, replicas of armor of XII-XIII and XIV-XV centuries, informational monitors and touchscreens.The pupils will be able to see at first hand the role of different social groups in the life of the ancient Ukrainian society, understand the concepts of “Magdeburg Law”, “voit”, “nobility”, “sultan”, “unity”. Expositions that dedicated to the history of Galicia Rus’ period gives the opportunity to understand the contribution of the Ruthenian (Ukrainian) society in the IX-XV centuries in the common European cultural heritage.
The tour will help pupils quickly remember the school material, and the information received during the excursion is better understood through visual images, smells and sounds. At the end of the tour the schoolchildren will be offered to create a historical portrait of Ruthenian (Ukrainian) leader of the XIV-XV centuries.

The tour focuses on the history of the Ukrainian lands of the Rzeczpospolita (XVI-XVII centuries) and is organized for 8th grade school groups.
Together with the museum’s expert, pupils will be able to learn about such historical personalities as Job Boretsky and Petro Konashevich Sagaidachny, and discover the history of the foundation of the Kiev Brotherhood School (in the later days of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy) and the Lviv Brotherhood School. Learn which kings of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth had the greatest interest in Lviv and why Rus’ military leadership was considered “the third power of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth”.The history of Cossacks will be presented through the most prominent personalities – Peter Konashevich Sagaidachny, Bogdan Khmelnitsky, Maxim Krivonos, Ivan Pidkova. The concepts of “Cossack”, “Zaporizka Sich”, “Koshovy Otaman”, “Registered Cossacks” are introduced. Pupils will also learn about architectural and artistic artifacts, which were created in Lviv XVI-XVIII centuries. They discover the most prominent religious leaders of the Lviv of that era.

The Quests

Quest with Museyko the Rat: pre-school and primary school age – 40 UAH/child
In the exciting game form, children together with the museum rat will learn the history of the city. They will follow the way from the time of Lvivs foundation up to 1772.
Duration: 1 hour.

There is a present for each participant.
The Quiz “Ancient Lviv”: middle and high school age – 40 UAH/student.
Quiz questions will help students become discover more about the exhibits of the museum, provide insight into the history of the city and encourage them to seek information on the information boards.

The Workshops

The Decoration of the Weapon (the axes)
During the workshop children will learn about Lviv as a centre of ammunition manufacture, learn about the museum exhibit and be able to self-decorate a battle-ax.

Painting using Coffee
The smell of Coffee is always inspiring to creativity. The process of painting using Coffee is fascinating even more. Children and adults go deep into the World of brown color and create unique pictures.

The traditional Ukrainian folk crafts – The Rag-Doll
We invite you to discover ancient Ukrainian traditions and make a Rag-Doll. You will be absorbed in the process of creating authentic Ukrainian amulets and plunge into the magic world of Ukrainian rituals and beliefs.

To Weave the Chainmail
Feel yourself like a true knight.

The Pottery Workshop
The Pottery Workshop is a great way to get away from the problems, the routine, and the daily rush. Pottery is not about speed and efficiency. Pottery is about the relaxation of the soul through the hands! Pottery is a way to get acquainted with the traditional craft of their ancestors, to get into a romantic setting and create something really valuable with their own hands.

The Medieval Dance
The magic of the dance is fascinating and bewitching. In the Middle Ages, there is a series of primitive dance forms. During the ages, they are evolving and gave the rise to numerous modern dances. We invite you to enjoy the rhythms and feel melodic of the Evening of Royal Dances.
